The Ultimate Love Song – Men’s Division Results

In the Men’s Division there were some close races, but in a tournament, it’s not were you are ranked that matters, but being able to survive and advance. With that said..Here are the results from the Men’s Division.

#1 Ribbon in the Sky was really no competition.

#15 Lenny Williams – “Cause I love you”, beat out the heavy favorite Billy Joel…that was a surprise.

#3 Forever, For Always, For Love defeated Van Morrison…it was very close.

#4 Spend my Life with You by Eric Benet won convincingly.

#5 I write a song for you by Earth Wind & Fire.

#11 Climax Blues Band – “I love you” won with a late surge.

#7 Donny Hathaway and #9 Robin Thicke ‘s  “Lost Without You” round out the final 8.

Don’t forget to vote in the women’s division. I am sure those competitions will come down to the wire.

The Ultimate Love Song – Women’s Division

Welcome to the Ladies Division of the Ultimate Love Song Competition! I have to say that we have some strong competition with Minnie Ripperton’s “Loving You” in the top spot and Whitney Houston’s title track “Run to You” that saved an entire movie at #2. When Etta James’s ” At Last” is #16 on the list, you know we have some great matchups.

Once again, if you haven’t heard the song before, I would appreciate if you Google it and listen, you might be surprised. Please vote for the song that is competing against the other. Also share this with your friends. Let’s make this bigger than American Idol…LOL

“The Ultimate Love Song!”

The holidays are over! You have returned gifts you didn’t want and you bought new ones. You brought in 2012 in style, or in your sleep. Now it’s time to focus on the next big thing, American Idol and The Voice. Well not exactly, but those shows are extremely popular beginning in January. The main reason is that as the TV audience, you feel that you have a direct result on the outcome. So in essence you get to take ownership.

StriveTwoSucceed is getting into the act with its own online voting reality show, The Ultimate Love Song. Starting today, I will have 32 contestants vying for the crown of the Ultimate Love Song. This song will be so versatile that you can use it for any occasion, whether it’s for a wedding proposal, to set up a night for the two of you, or as a way to make up.

As the Ryan Seacrest of Love, I have set up the rankings based on my personal favorites, and suggestions from other fans. If you didn’t give me any ideas, you can do it next year. I have 32 selections 16 men and 16 women. I will give a brief summary, or a line from the song that will state its case as being the ultimate Love song. What’s important is that I will need you to listen to the song,or check out the lyrics, then vote.

The online poll will close by Monday in order to present the results on Tuesday’s selection blog, and if you have comments about a particular song, please include. S2S fans please share with your friends via Facebook, or Twitter and let’s just have fun with it.

Here are just some of the contestants vying for the crown.

Norah Jones – Come Away with Me

Eric Benet – Share my Life with You.

Melody Gardot – Baby I’m a Fool

Earth Wind & Fire – I write a song for you

Happy Voting!

Sometimes Your words just aren’t enough. (M.M.M.)

P.G., my wife, likes to use dumpsters to help clean out the house. So this past weekend, I came across a lot of items to get rid of like, my daughter’s old crib, fraternity pictures and work documents that I had longer than we have lived in the house.  It was a challenge throwing out some of my old things.

The most difficult thing was throwing out my old cassette tapes. P.G. asked me, “How are you going to listen to them?” Laughing, I responded, “I’ll figure out a way.” One thing that caught my eye was one of the cassette cases that was labeled Songs for P.G. It really took me back to 17 years ago, when times were a little simpler, when you could still send love letters instead of love texts.

Back then, cell phones weren’t easily accessible, so if you wanted to let your GF or BF know you were thinking about them, you couldn’t just send a 140 character note on your phone. You had to talk on a regular phone, or write a letter. I wasn’t as eloquent with words as I am now, so I would use music and lyrics to get my point across. It helps to know what learning style your significant other might be because you can send your message in a different way and it will enhance your meaning.

For example:

Visual learners like diagrams.

Auditory learners enjoy music and videos.

Kinesthetic learners enjoy touching things.

The funny part about my love cassette was that it didn’t resonate with P.G., she is a visual learner. I, on the other hand, loved my playlist and she still married me anyway.

Since this is Marriage Music Monday, I am going to share some of the songs on the list plus a video. For those visual learners, I hope you enjoy it.

She – Will Downing

The Best is Yet to Come – Grover Washington/Patti Labelle

Someone Like You – Van Morrison

In All my Wildest Dreams – Joe Sample

You taught my heart to sing – Dianne Reeves

Were going back to school. Relationship School!

When we think of relationships, the first thing that comes to mind is usually not ourselves. We don’t think our happiness should be the #1 priority. Our thoughts and energy are focused on becoming whole or complete when we find that “person”. We get into those types of relationships and over time they don’t work. We spend countless hours writing in our journal, drinking some wine, or praying to ask ourselves, why? Until that next person comes along, and we repeat the same pattern.

It happened to me. I was always taught that you had to always treat women with respect. Now that had its consequences. Respect was sometimes perceived as being “too” nice or not having an edge. And after each relationship ended with no explanation over time I could have gone the way, that was expected of single men, but I held onto my beliefs and how I was raised.

So I ask you:

What type of person are YOU?
What qualities do YOU need in a mate that will compliment me, not complete me?
Do YOU believe that YOU can be in a relationship with a PARTNER?
Do YOU believe the person that wants to be with you is genuine?

These are the first steps before we take the leap. Robin Thicke’s – Can You Believe says it all.

This is just a little taste of what you are going to get in Strive 2 Succeed’s Relationship School.

Happy Labor Day

Where Did We Go Wrong? (M.M.M.)

Yesterday, I saw my friend Stephan after church. We exchanged pleasantries and I happen to notice he wasn’t wearing his ring. I asked him how he was doing. He told me he was going through some personal things, challenges, so I asked him a question that would help him open up a little more. After a few minutes he told me that his 18 year marriage was on the verge of collapse.

I offered my services, but his wife was looking for a specific type of relationship therapist and I didn’t fit the gender category.

As I drove home, I began to reflect on how is it possible that a marriage can end after so many years? You may be in the same boat yourself,  confused about how your marriage of 10 or more years suddenly ends.

Here are Five reasons why your good marriage could turn bad.

  1. The expectations you had built up before you were married or over time never materialized.
  2. You never really examined yourself in the marriage.
  3. You never learns the skill that is needed to get you through the obstacle.
  4. The unhealthy choice, no matter how small lead to the downfall of your marriage.
  5. You just can’t overcome an unpredictable circumstance.

As I listened to my friend talk to me, I thought about today’s Marriage Music Monday selection by L.T.D, Where Did We Go Wrong.

It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong
It doesn’t matter whose to blame
We both have to swallow our pride
To make this love strong, ooh, baby

You may not know the source of your partner’s frustration, unless you make the choice to sit down face-to-face, with a coach, or a counselor and work out your problems.  That’s what my friend Stephan was going to do. He wanted his good marriage back.

We are STRIVERS and we want “good marriages”.

In the book When Bad Things Happen to Good Marriages, by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrot they provide the secrets that couples use:

  • A good marriage is made up of..2 people who take ownership for the good as well as the bad. There are a responsible couple.
  • A good marriage is made up of..2 people believing good wins over bad. They are a responsible couple.
  • A good marriage is made up of..2 people walking in each other’s shoes. They are an empathic couple.
  • A good marriage is made up of ..2 people healing the hurts they don’t deserve. They are a forgiving couple.
  • A good marriage is made up of ..2 people living the love they promise. They are a committed couple.

Have a great week. And do something unexpected for your spouse.
